1. A member of the Dante Alighieri Society in good standings will  sponsor a new member and supply the candidate with an application.

2. The prospective candidate will obtain an application from the sponsor. 

3. The candidate will complete and return the application to the Dante Alighieri Society membership committee, for review and approval.  A check for $250.00 membership dues,will be submitted with the application. The $250.00 membership dues is refundable, if the candidate is not approved for membership into the Dante Alighieri Society. 

4. Prospective member will be invited to  attend a  Dante meeting with their Sponsor. The sponsor will present the potential member. The potential member will have the opportunity to  introduce himself. 

5. Dante votes on the member in private.

6. If confirmed, the new member is sworn in at the next meeting by taking an oath.

To be eligible for membership in the Dante Alighieri Society of Jersey City, an individual must meet the following criteria:

1. Be at least 21 years of age.

2. Be a citizen of the United States.

3. Possess good moral character.

4. Have no criminal convictions.

5. Not be a member of any organization that advocates the overthrow of the government.

6. Be of Italian ancestry, either through the paternal or maternal line.

However, individuals who are not of Italian ancestry may still be admitted as members, provided that their total number does not exceed 15% of the total membership in good standing. Priority will be given to the husbands of members in good standing of the Woman’s Auxiliary of this Society, provided such individuals align with the ideals and objectives of the Society.
